The Differences Between Marketing, Branding, PR, Advertising and Promotion

  1. ? Marketing- that’s the art of finding & targeting people who believe in what you believe in. In business, this is a process where you target people WHO NEED YOU the most. NOT SPAMMING every person you meet trying to sell them on what you offer. You’re suppose to look for the people who are more than likely looking for you and the value you provide.
  2. ?? Branding- After you find your target audience it’s now your time to shine and brand yourself. Tell them who you are, why you do it, how, when and where. This is the stage where you separate yourself from the cattle.
  3. ?PR – This is basically a cosign. This is the art of public understanding and creating a strategy where you align your brand with other brands that get people more aware and interested in your value. Could be placements, positioning at events, speaking campaigns, press etc…
  4. ? ADVERTISING- advert platforms allow you to place your brand on other channels other than your own and allow more people to be aware of your value. It’s not really a cosign because you typically are paying to share slots with other brands for radio spots, social ads, commercials, banners etc. .
  5. ? PROMOTION- This is where you come up with gimmicks/ catchy ways to get people to use/buy your service. This could be discounts, buy one get one free offers etc. What’s funny is a lot of people sum up everything above and call it promotion when it’s really isn’t the same. Promotion is typically done after you’ve marketed, branded, done PR and advertised.
